Beaverhead Drought Task Force June Update

posted in: News & Media | 0

6.7.16 MT USDMThe Beaverhead County Drought Task Force held its monthly meeting on Monday, June 13th at the Beaverhead County Courthouse in Dillon. There were some pieces of good news to highlight. First, the Beaverhead Valley got some much needed rain on Saturday after getting off to a dry start for the month of June. Totals ranged from 0.29″ near Argenta, to 0.45″ in Dillon. Second, Lima Reservoir’s storage has seen healthy increases lately. Snowpack in the Centennial Valley was near normal this year, but Lima Reservoir’s storage had been lagging, and forecasters weren’t sure if or when storage would recover. As of Monday, it was 86% full and the storage was 113% of average for this time of year. Last year on the 13th of June it was 63% full and storage was 83% of average for this time of year. Storage in Clark Canyon Reservoir is sitting right around average for this time of year (98%). Lastly, the Forest Service stated that range production was looking good and that almost all of their permittees were able to turn out their livestock in full numbers. The fire danger for the rest of the summer looks to be about normal. For more climate and water supply information, please click on the link below:
